"The Clothes Makes the Man"
My personal interpretation of the quote, "The Clothes Make the Man" is how you present yourself is what people are going to think of you. I feel mixed ways about this particular saying. The picture above kind of represents my disagreement with this quote. The photo was a part of a "don't judge me" social experiment and it shows that it doen't matter what someone wears, you don't know who the person really is by the clothes that they're wearing. I once saw a social experiment once about a biker who wore leather and had tattoos and when asked what they thought about hime, people naturally right off the bat assumed he was a bad person or said he was "scary". It turned out that man graduated from university and was a great father to two daughters. It shows that the stereotype of what a person wears isn't always right. So in those types of situations, the clothes don't really make the man. Don't judge a book by it's cover.
On the other hand, I do agree with this quote. Like with uniforms; they help you see what type of occupaton that person has. A blue suit and a badge represents that a man or woman lives their life protecting the citizens of their city. A white coat and a stethescope or blue scrubs shows that person is a life saver. When we see someone in a black robe we automatically see them as someone who fights crime and brings people to justice. But with the assumptions come stereotypes. Similarly, seeing someone's clothes makes you think of what type of person that is (to a certain extent). If you see someone well put together, you automatically think that they take care of themselves. Or, where the streotypes come in, if you see someone not looking so good, you assume they're going through a rough time (which we should stop doing). Clothes also represent social class (unfortunatley). Brand names and designers splashed on a t shirt or a specific style of shoes makes you automatically think that the person that is wearing it is wealthy, which in today's society, makes them better than everyone else.
As humans we are very presumtuos beings. When we see someone wearing any type of clothing, in our minds we basically form our opinion about them. Innocent assumptions is that if someone is wearing a band t shirt, we think they like that band. But assuming someone's worth based on the clothes they wear is a habit that we need to get out of, becuase it's unfair to that person and you might miss the chance on making a new friend just because of what they look like. We should look past the clothes on people's backs and start looking deeper. Though the clothes a person is wearing gives us insight to the type of personality they have, it doesn't let us know the type of person they are as a whole.
